Home field advantage

The University of Chicago once did a study to determine whether the home-field advantage was real or just a myth. What they found was pretty incredible:

In the United States, the home team has a win rate of over 50% across all major league sports:

- MLS: 69.1%
- NBA: 62.7%
- NHL: 59%
- NFL: 57.6%
- MLB: 54.1%

The home field advantage is real in sports. But, it’s real in life, too.

I always advise founders to create a home field advantage for themselves whenever they schedule an in-person meeting. Every person should have a go-to bar, coffee shop, restaurant, or workspace that they can use as their designated space for in-person meetings.

Find a place near your home or work that’s familiar and comfortable to you. Find a place that’s quiet (but not too quiet). Find a place where you can reliably secure a table. Find a place that you feel comfortable in.

Become a regular at this place, make friends with the staff, and be sure to tip well.

This place will become your home turf.

And, when you’ve got your home field advantage, nothing can stop you.
