Founder Friday is a content series from SuperAngel.Fund highlighting companies in our portfolio and the inspiring founders behind them.
In our 17th edition, we are featuring Prince Ghosh, Co-Founder & CEO of Factored Quality, a modern quality control platform for eCommerce and CPG brands.
One of the most prevalent (and less-documented) problems for brands is managing the processes around quality control. Every company that manufactures goods faces the same issues: finding, booking, and managing inspectors is difficult and expensive. The process lacks transparency, with companies confused about why they got a pass or fail grade.
The inspections and factory audits market is massive, with 10m+ Shopify and Amazon merchants alone performing millions of inspections each year. Factored Quality streamlines the process for the world’s top DTC, eCommerce and retail brands, leveraging proprietary software and managed services to help brands book trained QC inspectors, and provides them with unique insights and analytics, including real time production metrics. All of which is required to 1) build the highest quality products for customers, 2) certify that factories work under ethical conditions, and 3) minimize returns, rework and unnecessary cost.
Along with Co-Founders Lucas Fridman, Yas Vishnu, Justin Seidenfeld, and Lucas Lappe, CEO Prince Ghosh has led the Factored Quality team straight from Y Combinator (YC W20) through a $5.6M seed round led by Amity Ventures. Prior to Factored, Ghosh co-founded Workbench, a supply chain management company, and before that, worked as an aerospace engineer for NASA…no big deal…but kind of a big deal!
We may not be quality assurance experts like they are, but we give them an A+.
Describe your company in 5 words or less.
Prince: Quality control as a service.
What was your primary motivation for starting your business?
Prince: We started Factored Quality because we realized that almost every consumer goods brand had to run quality control and compliance, but it's incredibly challenging to run and deploy QC at scale. We wanted to enable any brand anywhere in the world to deploy quality control inspectors to their global supply chains.
What piece of advice would you give an entrepreneur starting a business today?
Prince: The goal for the first few years is not about jumping out of the gate super hot, but surviving long enough to find product market fit. Companies that are able to withstand the trials and tribulations of the first few years and finding product market fit are the ones that end up living long enough to survive in the long term. The only thing that matters is building something people want.
What do you love to do in your free time?
Prince: In my free time I love to workout, play tennis and golf, read, engage in more of my creative side through art and music, and hang out with friends and family.
What is the most interesting place you’ve visited recently and why?
Prince: I recently went to Chattanooga, Tennessee for a conference led by one of our investors. It was a surprisingly beautiful little city in the middle of the country.
What is your favorite app or tool in your work life and in your personal life?
Prince: I love and live in Notion. I think my entire life would fall apart if Notion were to shut down. Almost every part of both my business and personal life lives in Notion.
What do you believe is the most important skill or attribute of a successful founder?
Prince: Grit - by far, is the most important skill and attribute of a successful founder. I think almost everything else can vary, but the only trait I've seen from every single successful founder I've met has been an incredible amount of grit.
