Growing up, I was a pretty competitive kid.
I grew up with two brothers and we all played sports like basketball, baseball, football, hockey, golf, and tennis. This is where I developed my sense of competition.
The thing I always loved about sports is that success can be measured quantitatively and in absolute terms. The score is the score, and it’s how you differentiate between winners and losers.
As I got older, I mostly stopped playing sports, but I didn’t stop competing.
I still had that competitive streak and that drive. If you’re reading this, you probably have it, too.
As a result, I was drawn to business. After all, business is truly the ultimate sport.
No matter what you do, the “sport” of business requires endless hours of work and study to achieve mastery.
You need to work hard. You need to show up every day. Most importantly, you need to compete.
And that’s why I like business so much — It’s an opportunity to compete with millions of opponents from around the world.
Success in business has a single form of measurement.
The winner is the one that’s able to generate the most value.
And, that value is calculated in U.S. Dollars.
I may not play sports, but I’m still an athlete.
